ANGER MANAGEMENT

Anger is a normal human emotion; however, if it is not expressed appropriately it can have devastating and lasting effects on people and their relationships. Learning to manage anger is an important life skill, so emotions do not become overwhelming, out of control and lead us into trouble.

Everyone can benefit from learning about anger management! Benefits of effective anger management include:

  • Being able to recognize and appropriately respond to normal feelings
  • Learning better judgment and impulse control
  • Better communication with friends, parents, and teachers
  • Increased positive outcomes in relationships with others and self
  • Less conflict at home, school, and the community

Anger Management Groups

These groups are open and ongoing, and available to interested area youth ages 9-13 and 14-18. Groups are limited to twelve participants at a time and consists of a total of eight sessions. Interested youth may begin at any point. Covered topics include:

  • Identifying anger
  • Normalizing anger
  • Consequences of anger
  • Identifying anger triggers
  • The body’s physical response to anger
  • Assertive, aggressive, and passive thoughts and actions
  • Problem-solving
  • Ways to safely release/express anger
  • Dealing with others’ anger
