COURTNEY (& 4 Month Old Adam)

Courtney came to Promising Futures because she became homeless. Currently enrolled at a Hamilton County high school as a sophomore, she is working hard and making a smooth transition. She enjoys her classes and is making friends.

Courtney joined the school choir and is saving her allowance to purchase the choir's warm up outfit and working up the nerve to ask for a solo at their upcoming Christmas concert.

TAMERA (& 2 Year Old Hannah)

Another resident is Tamera and her two-year old daughter, Hannah, who came to Promising Futures this past spring. Tamera was living with her older sister, but due to conflict, was going to have to move back to an unstable home environment in Ohio. A counselor at Tamera's school referred her to Promising Futures, and Tamera has been making wonderful strides towards independence.

Tamera is working towards her high school diploma and plans to graduate this spring. She will be the first in her immediate family to graduate from high school. Tamera also obtained employment and is saving her money so that she can secure appropriate housing for her and her daughter. Tamera has goals of one day attending college so that she may study pre-law.

Children born to teen mothers like Courtney and Tamera are more likely to grow up in low-income single parent households, experience greater health risks, and struggle with school achievement.

Promising Futures' program offers services that are nationally recommended and critical to ensure healthy growth and development for children and teen parents:

  1. Flexible Education Options
  2. Family Support Services
  3. Prenatal care
  4. Quality child care
  5. Parenting and Life Skills Education
  6. Safe Housing

Promising Futures helps teen moms have a successful future and also helps break the cycle of proverty for their children.
